Gone With The Wind
1) Gone with the Wind was a film directed by Victor Fleming in 1939. During class, it was discussed that the film was based on the American Civil War and Reconstruction era from the point of view of white Southerners. The film received many Academy Award nominations for: Best Actor, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and etc. Hattie McDaniel was the first African American female and African American person in general to ever receieve an Academy Award. Viven Leigh also received an award, for being the Best Leading Actress. Her role of Scarlett O'Hara showed that a very daring and powerful side of a woman. Scarlett never took no for an answer, spoke her mind when she wanted something to be said and lived her life how she wanted to. Even in the end, when her husband left her because she was obsessed over a married man she was determined to get him back.

The article draws much of it's attention to Viven Leigh's character of Scarlett O'Hara. The film is more about Scarlett's "lust vs vanity" rather than the actual American Civil War between the North and the South. Her love for Ashley is genuine and "sentimental" while her love for Butler is more lustful and adventurous. Scarlett represented a bold woman who was free-spirited and strong willed. Being that she was being portrayed as a Southern woman in the early 1860s, she was "suppose to be" a kind hearted gentle woman, but Fleming's did the opposite which made the film more interesting and popular.
3)The article and the film screening go hand in hand with their understanding and knowledge of Scarlett O'Hara's behavior and attitude. She is a strong minded person who doesnt take anyone's opinions or words into consideration. She thinks for herself, which wasnt always good, but doesn't care. Whatever she believes will please her, she will try her best to do it.
4) Although it's not always good to not take other's warnings or feelings into consideration, I respect the fact that Scarlett is not afraid to go after what she wants or say whatever is on her mind. She embodies a woman that many women should be like, especially during those times. Women needed to be more strong willed, strong minded, free spirited, and courageous just like Scarlett. The film's message was that no matter what people say to you, the only person you need to impress is yourself.
